How to compress a PDF to 100KB

    1. Select your PDF or drop it on the page. The target is already set to 100KB.
    2. Change the target if your form asks for a different limit, for example 150 or 300 KB.
    3. Click "Compress to 100KB". Several settings are tried and the best one under the limit is kept.
    4. Download the PDF and upload it to your form. The new size is shown next to the file name.

100 KB is one of the strictest limits you will meet. Many government services, exam registrations and scholarship forms only accept certificates, ID cards or mark sheets under 100 KB, while a phone scan of a single page is often 1 to 3 MB. The file has to lose more than 90% of its weight.

For the best result, upload only the pages the form asks for and scan them in grayscale at 150 dpi. A one or two-page document then fits in 100 KB and stays perfectly readable.

    About the file formats

    PDF (Portable Document Format)

Created by Adobe in 1993, PDF is the standard for sharing documents that must look identical on every screen and printer. It embeds fonts, images and layout in one file and supports passwords, forms and digital signatures.

    Frequently asked questions

Why do forms ask for a PDF under 100 KB?

Portals that receive thousands of applications limit each file to keep uploads fast on slow connections and storage costs low. 100 KB is enough for one or two clearly readable pages.

How do I compress a PDF to 100KB?

Select your PDF, keep the target at 100KB and click "Compress to 100KB". A few seconds later you can download a PDF of 100KB or less.

What if my PDF cannot get under 100KB?

The images inside the PDF are compressed first. If that is not enough, the pages are turned into compact images. When even that is too big (very long documents), you get the smallest possible file and a message tells you so. Split the PDF or remove pages, then try again.

    Is the text still readable?

Yes. Text and vector graphics are kept as they are whenever the target can be reached by compressing the images, which is the case for most scans and photo documents.

Does 1 KB mean 1000 or 1024 bytes here?

We count 1 KB as 1000 bytes, so the file is slightly under the limit in both systems and every upload form accepts it.

    Is MajorPDF free to use?

Yes, completely free. There is no registration and no watermark is added to your files.

    Are my files safe?

Files are uploaded over an encrypted connection and deleted automatically after 1 hour(s). After downloading you can also delete them immediately with one click.

What is the maximum file size?

Each file can be up to 50 MB.
